Dersin Writes New Book about Reliability Engineering

Pierre Dersin

LIDS alum Pierre Dersin (PhD ‘80) has written a new book, Modeling Remaining Useful Life Dynamics in Reliability Engineering, published in June 2023 by CRC Press, Taylor & Francis.

The book applies traditional reliability engineering methods to prognostics and health management (PHM), looking at remaining useful life (RUL) and its dynamics, to enable engineers to effectively and accurately predict machinery and systems useful lifespan.

Dersin received his Master’s in Operations Research in 1976 and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1980 from MIT (at LIDS, under Prof. Michael Athans’ supervision). He also holds math and electrical engineering degrees from Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). Since 2019, he has been Adjunct Professor at Luleå University of Technology (Sweden) in the Operations & Maintenance Engineering Division after a long career in industry (e.g., Alstom) until 2021.
