Dr. Tom Z.Q. Luo (LIDS/MIT, PhD, 1989) is currently the Vice-President (Academic) for the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shen Zhen [(CUHK(SZ)).

The establishment of CUHK(SZ)] is an initiative by extending the CUHK core educational philosophy and values beyond Hong Kong, in order to contribute to higher education across the nation and to groom future generations of university graduates who are international in outlook, learned in the disciplines they follow, upright character, and committed to serving the needs of society. It is an endeavor that will have a profound impact on the training of top talents and on the educational reform in China, and to contribute to the long-term prosperity of Shenzhen, Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region.

The President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK(SZ)), Prof. Yangsheng Xu, and the Vice president for Academic Affairs, Prof. Tom Luo, a LIDS alum (PhD ‘89), visited LIDS in May 2017. The CUHK(SZ) visit highlighted such intersections, and led to discussions of possible collaborations between the university and LIDS. As a first step in exploring these possibilities, CUHK(SZ) has offered to welcome short or extended visits by LIDS faculty. In turn, LIDS offered opportunities for select CUHK(SZ) postdocs to visit the lab and collaborate with LIDS faculty.
